Here at Smeeth Saddlery we have an on site saddler. Suzanne repairs most saddlery and leather items. Bridle repairs are popular with headpieces being spliced, cheek piece buckles replaced or alterations like shortening cheek pieces and throat latches are a common alteration. Leather headcollars are a frequent piece of equipment that often gets brought to Suzanne to fix, often being the clip on the throat that has broken.
Saddles are usually booked in so the customers are not without them for too long, new girth straps are a common job, stitching and re-lacing the front or back of saddles is also popular. Topping up the flocking or complete strip out and reflocks are also done.
Suzanne can turn her hand at many leather repairs and bespoke new items, new dog collars made from strong English leather have been a good choice for customers who have the bigger stronger dog that need something tough and reliable.
Long leather boots are often seen on Suzanne’s workbench as she replaces zips in long riding boots and this has been an extremely popular repair to people’s old faithful comfy boots.
We also take in rugs for rug repairs and claening.
A long side the equestrian leather repairs Suzanne has worked on leather cases, vintage motorbike leather seats and even rolls Royce car parts. Leather belts are often asked to be made for and these last years as they’re all made from English saddlery leather, her dad still has the one that she made when training to be a saddler some 20+ years ago.
